Thursday 8th February

We eat breakfast on our veranda entertained by colourful parrots flying from the trees to drink water from the rainwater tank. It is very hot already. Back on the straight roads we are blasé about the odd kangaroo and emu and see several wedge tailed eagles soaring in the thermals in the blue sky above us. The red soiled desert outback changes to wheat filled plains again as we head south. We stop at Ollaroo a 500 year old giant eucalyptus tree with a massive trunk. We decide to catch up with some wine tasting in Clare although poor Simon has volunteered to navigate us back to Adelaide so has to spit. I am however able to try Riesling, Voignier, Savignon (not Sauvignon!), Semillon, sparking Reisling and Rose in 2 wineries Pikes and Paullets. Hic! We have lunch on a hot deck overlooking an amazing view of vineyards and grazing land of the Polish Hill area. I have seared yellow fin icecream and Simon wins quote of the day with "the kangaroo was delicious!" We have scrumptious homemade icecream as well. The temperature is now in the 40s as we hit the outskirts of Adelaide. It is lovely to see Ellie and Michael again, both looking remarkably fresh after their ordeal of night shifts. We cool off in the sea and then head off into town to the outdoor moonlight cinema. We take blankets and chairs and enjoy our picnic washed down with a little more Riesling of course. It is certainly atmospheric when the massive vampire bats circle above us. We watch The Post which Simon says was very good. I have to confess that the warm Adelaide air was too much and he had to nudge me when I snored.
