Thursday 15 February

We are woken by a kookaburra singing very loudly in the old gum tree (right above our heads!). That prompts a rendition of the old girl guide song from the girl guides in our group. We're up at 7 to walk up to Mount Amos and Wineglass Bay and Hazzards Beach, a 7 hour walk. We drive to the car park at the end of the road and have our breakfast in the van before setting off upwards ( to 415 metres). There's a warning notice at the beginning of the trail saying it's for experienced bush walkers only.....there are steep slabs of pInk granite to traverse and it involves quite a bit of scrambling. Silver peppermint eucalyptus and tee trees with their white flowers line the route.

The summit has spectacular views to Wine Glass Bay below. After numerous photos we make the treacherous descent. Then we hike along the track to Wine Glass beach for a chilly dip in the Southern Ocean before eating our roll and hard boiled eggs. Then along the track to Hazzards beach, littered with giant oyster shells. The trail then goes through more eucalyptus and tea trees before we eventually get back to the van. We spoil ourselves with a 2 $ shower and a bottle of Jansz methode Tasmanoise premium cuvée bought from the bottle shop the other day to celebrate an epic walk.
