Sunday 4 February: Adelaide, Aldinga Beach

We make an early start to meet up with Ollie Wiley, an ex GP trainee who emigrated here with his family about 4 years ago. He lives on the coast north of Adelaide and we meet for a walk and breakfast by the sea. He has a cute 2 year old son and a rather fat chocolate Lab who doesn't like walking. He finds work here less stressful and enjoys the quality of life and outdoor lifestyle for his family. He hasn't changed a bit and still looks about 12 years old!
We then stop off in Glenelg for provisions from Woolworths and local SA wine: Shaw and Smiths Reisling. Simon and I buy smart mirrored sunglasses and soon feel part of the in crowd. Ellie drives us south to Aldinga beach, a vast expanse of golden sands and aquamarine sea. Everyone drives their large 4WD cars onto the sand so they can bring everything but the kitchen sink. There is room for all and we have our picnic with glorious views of the sea. We have to retreat with the incoming tide but even I am persuaded to join in a game of Kubb on the beach which involves throwing batons to knock over blocks. Strategy and competitive spirit prevail and Michael and I are victorious after a close battle. Home for another impressive sunset with Kangaroo Island gin and tonic and a late supper: barbecued steak and salad on the balcony. And the last episode of Kiri on illegal download.
